What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you are comfortable in - most people usually dress smart casual but there are no set rules. I would suggest however to avoid trainers or any footwear that grips the floor as you will be doing turns which require your foot to be able to slide - grippy shoes can make your ankles or knees ache and make your turns harder to execute.
Do I have to bring a partner to your events?
No, most people don't bring a partner, although many people come with friends as it can be less daunting to come with someone you know. We rotate students around in the class so you will get to dance with lots of different people throughout the evening. It doesn't take long to make new friends and our classes are very welcoming and supportive of newcomers.
How much does it cost?
That varies depending on what you are attending. Parties and events will usually be between £7-£10 depending on whats on offer - live music, guest teachers etc would be more likely to be £10 for instance. Private lessons start from £35/hour for local one-one sessions, whereas private group classes or lessons further afield would usually cost more.
What style of salsa do you teach?
We teach mainly cross body on 1. This means we dance in a slotted style, basically in a line where we swap places, and we start our steps on beat 1 of the bar. However we love fusion so you may occasionally see elements of other dance styles and other styles of salsa in some of our moves (such as Cuban salsa, or Tango).
What do you mean by Jive/Blues?
Modern Jive is a very simple partner dance which is easy to pick up. It has very little fixed footwork and involves lots of turns and spins. Blues is similar but tends to be slower and with more moves in close hold (like a cuddle) rather than at arms length. We tend to teach a mixture of these, sometimes adding in elements of tango too. Have a look at our recent moves to see some videos of moves and routines we have taught recently.
Are there drinks available at the venue?
That depends on the venue used for each event. If there is no bar available we always try to offer water and tea/coffee where there are appropriate facilities and we will let you know on our event information if you can bring your own drinks.
