What should I wear?

Salsa Farnborough Hampshire

You can wear whatever you are comfortable in - most people usually dress smart casual but there are no set rules. I would suggest however to avoid trainers or any footwear that grips the floor as you will be doing turns which require your foot to be able to slide - grippy shoes can make your ankles or knees ache and make your turns harder to execute.

Do I have to bring a partner?

No, most people don't bring a partner, although many people come with friends as it can be less daunting to come with someone you know. We rotate students around in the class so you will get to dance with lots of different people throughout the evening. It doesn't take long to make new friends and our classes are very welcoming and supportive of newcomers.

Do I have to wait for the start of a course?

No, our lessons are run as drop in sessions so you can come for the first time to any of our nights, but be sure to get there for 8pm so as not to miss the beginners class! The evening is structured so that we always start with complete beginners moves then gradually progress to harder moves through the evening. Gradually as you get more confident you may wish to arrive later in the evening after the beginners class although many students like to use it as a warm up and to help new students progress.

How much does it cost?

It is usually £7 for the evening from 8-11pm, but if you have danced before and wish to attend just the freestyle it is free after 9.45pm. We often have special offers and deals on so it is worth checking our website or joining our mailing list to be kept up to date with these.

Can I come to several classes per week?

Yes, you can attend as often as you like - the more frequently you dance the quicker you will improve. We teach different moves in every lesson so that if you come on a Tuesday then again on Friday you won't be getting taught the same moves. Some people however, like to recap moves to make sure they remember them. If this sounds like you then just make a note of the moves you want to remember and ask us to refresh your memory whenever you like - we're always happy to help!

What style of salsa do you teach?

We teach mainly cross body on 1. This means we dance in a slotted style, basically in a line where we swap places, and we start our steps on beat 1 of the bar. However we love fusion so you may occasionally see elements of other dance styles and other styles of salsa in some of our moves.

What lesson should I attend?

This depends on whether you have danced salsa before. If not, you should come at 8pm to our beginners/improvers lesson where we will guide you through the basic steps. If you have danced salsa before, you are still welcome to attend the 8pm class - many of our more experienced dancers do, using it as a warm up and also to help our newcomers develop quicker - or you could come at 8.30pm when we progress to improvers moves. The intermediates class if you prefer to do just this, starts around 9pm. We allow students to choose which class they wish to attend, but if you are still unsure, come and have a dance with us and we can help you decide.

Are there drinks available at the venue?

At our Godalming venue there is a fully licensed bar. At our Farnborough venue water is available, we sell bottles of coke and diet coke and you are more than welcome to bring your own drinks.
